Some pertinent Pesach halachos and schedule notes from R’ Pessin

Morai V’Rabbosai,

This year as we all know the first day of our Chag Hamatzos/Yomtov Pesach falls out on Shabbos, this necessitates a few adjustments to our regular way of doing things going into Yomtov.

1- Although not absolutely critical, an effort should be made to measure out the Shiurim for Matza and Maror the “Kazaysim” prior to Yomtov on Erev Shabbos. If necessary, bedikos for bugs should be done on Erev Shabbos as well

2- The salt water for Karpas should be made on Erev Shabbos lichatchila as well, especially if a large quantity is necessary for your Seder

3- If you have the minhag to add wine to the Charosess before the seder, this too should be done before Shabbos

4-Because the first day Yomtov is also Shabbos we are mechuyav in Shalosh Seudos. However because we have another Seder on Motzaei Shabbos that we should be entering Bitayavon (Hungry) we need to try make our 2 Seudos before Chatzos (or at least before Eser Shaos the last quarter of the day ). My father zt’l was nohaig to make Kiddush, Wash & Hamotzi eat one course and then Bentch. Take a short walk to create a hafsaka and then wash to eat again and complete the second seuda even prior to Mincha

5- On Motzaei Shabbos (the 2nd seder) one makes Yaknehaz at Kadesh. Hagefen, Kiddush, Ner (again, my father discouraged the combining of 2 Neiros because of the possibility of Kibui a Melacha on Yomtov as well) Havdala, Shehechiyanu (zman)

SOME IMPORTANT SCHEDULING CHANGES AND NOTES

  • Schachris Erev Pesach/Siyum Bechorim (Friday Morning) is 8am
  • You must stop eating Chametz on Erev Pesach by 10:10am
  • You can no longer go into the Chametz you sold area’s after 1030am
  • Friday Night Mincha is at 720pm because it is also Shabbos we will daven Maariv earlier than usual, we will attempt to time things so that people will be home by Tzais in order to start the Seder immediately.
  • During Chol Hamoed there is a mistake on the Shul Calendar regarding Maariv. We will be davening Mincha/Maariv every evening. There will be a five minute break after Mincha and then we will daven Maariv.
  • Yizkor and Shir Hashirim will be on Shabbos, Acharon Shel Pesach.
  • Chometz will be bought back iy’h (if the Goy doesn’t want to complete the deal) after 10pm iy’h

Wishing all of you a Chag Kasher V’Samayach and hoping to join with you in being Mikabel Moshiach tzidkaynu during this Zman HaGeulah
