Kimcha D’Pischa – Maos Chittim 5786

Tonight is Rosh Chodesh Nissan, and I want to remind the Oilam of  the Chiyuv to give Kimcha DePischa : The earliest textual source for this Minhag is in the Gemara Yerushalmi, Bava Basra, Perek Alef. It describes the collection as a communal obligation (chiyuv) where residents are required to contribute to a fund for “wheat for Pesach” to the poor so they  can afford matzah. The Aruch Hashulchan in Hilchos pesach paskens that it is a separate Chov like matanos L’Evyonim and not part of one’s regular Chiyuvei Tzedaka. I will be acting as gabbai for both Kupath Ezrah and Tomchei Shabbos once again, both of these worthy organizations make sure Aniyay Ircha are taken care of for Yomtov!
